How to Influence Parliament — “Training Intensive: Parliamentary Advocacy in Action”
Training for civil society and charitable organisations that want to influence parliament’s decisions in the interests of the people they work with.
Many civil society and charitable organisations already do important work on the ground but do not know how to bring the needs of their people to parliament. The project provides the knowledge and skills to turn changes that can be achieved through a law, a government resolution or a state programme into national advocacy campaigns.
Goal and expected results
The goal is to strengthen the capacity of civil society and charitable organisations to design and run parliamentary advocacy campaigns and to take part in shaping public policy at the national level.
- 50 representatives of organisations will gain knowledge and skills in parliamentary advocacy — from how laws are passed to a national campaign strategy.
- 10 organisations will develop roadmaps for their own advocacy campaigns and present them at an open final event.
- More people will learn how the public can influence lawmaking: the “Oxford Debates” and the final event will be streamed online and open to everyone.
Who it is for
Primarily newly established organisations. Priority in selection goes to those working with internally displaced people, veterans, military families, families of missing persons and prisoners of war, and residents of frontline communities.
How the project works
- Training intensive “Parliamentary Advocacy in Action” — online training on 12–14 November 2026 and a three-day offline simulation game on 23–25 November 2026: from initiating a bill to its adoption, including a panel discussion with members of parliament and representatives of civil society organisations.
- Consultations for 10 organisations — from December 2026: each develops a roadmap for its own advocacy campaign.
- “Oxford Debates” among the intensive’s participants — online, in January 2027.
- Final event — in February 2027, offline and online: presentation of the roadmaps and of successful advocacy cases.
